Motorola offers the element management systems operators need to manage and control equipment and services across access and metropolitan networks. These focused element management systems are based on industry-standard interfaces and offer full-featured Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) to supermanagers and other higher-level management platforms.

Each element management system offers interfaces to third-party Operational Support Systems (OSS) so MSOs have maximum flexibility in deploying integrated, end-to-end management solutions. Managing the broadband infrastructure and enabling the provisioning of new customers and services across the network will reduce maintenance costs and downtime, optimize performance, improve customer service, and accelerate the growth of new services.

Motorola provides element management systems to manage all aspects of the network infrastructure, including: the HFC optics and RF; metro transport and enterprise access; the DOCSIS access network; and the subscriber premises.

Motorola Connected Home Solutions also offers the expertise and professional services operators need to establish and implement automated network management. The combination of worldclass products, focused element management systems, and network management expertise allows Motorola Connected Home Solutions to partner successfully with cable operators so they can control and manage equipment and services throughout the network.

StormWatch II

Motorola's StormWatch II cable modem diagnostic suite is compatible with all DOCSIS cable modems and can quickly diagnose and help solve most communications and configuration issues as they arise.

An alternative to expensive, complex System Network Management Protocol (SNMP) management software and hardware, StormWatch II is a Java-based standalone management and monitoring tool that enables installers, customer support representatives, and network management personnel to dramatically simplify the troubleshooting process.

It uses standard SNMP MIBs to present network management and monitoring capabilities and is configurable to provide read-write or read-only access to the cable modem, allowing visibility to vital cable modem information while allowing write access only to those who need it.

StormWatch II delivers enhanced functionality when used with Motorola Cable Modems. With StormWatch II, many of the management and monitoring capabilities that were previously only available with expensive SNMP management stations are now compacted into one self-contained application.

HFC Manager

Motorola's HFC Manager is an element management system for headend and outside plant transmission equipment. It enables broadband network operators to reduce maintenance costs and downtime, optimize performance, and improve customer service by providing real-time monitoring and remote configuration. Its scalable architecture supports from one user and one device to many users and thousands of devices. The application features an easy-to-use graphical user interface, device auto-discovery, remote web access, customizable maps and containers, and local language capability.

The HFC Manager provides fault, configuration, accounting, performance, and security (FCAPS) management for transmission equipment. It offers extensive visual capabilities through its user-friendly GUI. Network elements can be easily organized into containers and placed onto a customizable geographic map. They can be viewed in a hierarchical tree, table list, and/or through physical inventory icon maps. Elements can be graphically linked together to show a logical view of the network.

The HFC Manager provides superior fault management capabilities. An event log in the background collects every detected network event as well as all HFC Manager internal events. This provides an audit trail of all system activity. The HFC Manager also provides robust, flexible reporting capabilities. Pre-defined reports are available or custom reports can be created for inventory, alarm, and system events in HTML format.

Motorola Advanced Provisioning System (MAPS)

The Motorola Advanced Provisioning System (MAPS) is an integrated, best-of-breed provisioning system for broadband networks that is based on industry standards. This highly available system allows cable operators to quickly deploy and manage innovative services and it integrates with legacy OSS infrastructure through industry-standard interfaces.

MAPS is compliant with DOCSIS, EuroDOCSIS, PacketCable, and IP specifications, and operators can deploy MAPS as a standalone solution or as a key element of their provisioning infrastructure. With MAPS, cable operators can swiftly provision services and automate the configuration of network and subscriber equipment. MSOs can accelerate time-to-revenue and support flexible service deployment models.

Subscribers can provision services through a customer service representative or even purchase a cable modem through a retail outlet and immediately establish service. Operators can also allow subscribers to self-select incremental services through an easy-to-use web-based interface.

Auto-configuration and self-installation of cable modems and Multimedia Terminal Adaptor (MTAs) are critical to lowering service costs, accelerating service revenue, improving customer service, and lowering operational costs. MAPS provides a powerful and flexible IP management capability that enables operators to bring users online quickly and efficiently. It includes scalable, easy-to-administer management tools that enable cable operators to efficiently manage subscriber growth. These tools include DNS, DHCP, TFTP and TOD servers.

Motorola offers expertise in provisioning and managing equipment at the subscriber location and on the cable access network and allows operators to prepare to rapidly introduce new services and flexible provisioning models. Operators can automatically provision subscriber access devices according to PacketCable and DOCSIS standards. MAPS will add, delete, and modify MTA or cable modem configurations based on information provided by MAPS or by customer care and billing systems.

Managing the Network Effectively

Motorola Connected Home Solutions offers robust element management systems that all support integration with higher-layer supermanagers. Motorola also offers the professional services expertise to help cable operators efficiently implement end-to-end network management to drive down operational costs and accelerate time-to-revenue. Motorola offers the element management systems and the professional services that allow cable operators to quickly design, deploy, and operate broadband solutions.
