The difference between regular TV and High-Definition
TV, or HDTV, is like comparing cassette tapes to CDs or VHS
to DVD. One is fine, but the other is so much better.
How much better? Well, in technical terms,
HDTV uses up to 1080 lines of viewable resolution compared
to the 480 lines on standard TV. Meaning, HDTV images have
twice the color resolution and roughly six times the sharpness.
More on the technical stuff here.
For now, think of it this way: watching
shows and movies on HDTV means you'll see things you never
knew existed and experience enhanced
audio. Fine details that add to the depth and dimension of
a movie or sporting
event. Combine that with
digital audio and you hear subtle sounds in a movie's audio
track that can turn your viewing experience into something
almost real.
