Offer Value-Added Home Networking Solutions with SURFboard® CPE

Fundamental changes are happening today with Wi-Fi® services -- the proliferation of wireless LANs (local area networks), the growth in home networking, and the explosive increases in retail Wi-Fi router sales are evidence of the increasing need for wireless services throughout the home and business environments. Cable operators are well positioned to invigorate their DOCSIS® 2.0 service offerings by deploying Motorola’s SURFboard cable and digital voice modems with integrated Wi-Fi capabilities.

By selecting Motorola's proven SURFboard® CPE (consumer premises equipment) platforms, MSOs can avoid the installation and support risks of retail-class Wi-Fi devices. Wi-Fi technology is supported by nearly every modern personal computer operating system, game consoles, routers, and other peripherals. The purpose of Wi-Fi is to hide connectivity complexity by enabling wireless access to applications, data, media, and streams. Motorola is offering a wide range of integrated DOCSIS 2.0-certified cable and digital voice modems to help cable operators securely deliver wireless services to their residential and small business accounts.

By relying on Motorola’s integrated SURFboard platforms, cable operators can offer their subscribers centrally provisioned / managed Wi-Fi devices. They can create increased demand for their broadband services by enabling easy access to multiple users in a single location, without the cost, time, and hassle of running cabling throughout the customer facility. Cable operators can rely on Motorola’s proven Wi-Fi solutions to enhance media mobility, and improve customer care, as well as enable increased usage and simplify delivery of broadband services to multiple users in a single location. The following SURFboard platforms support DOCSIS 2.0 and 802.11g Wi-Fi on integrated platforms:

Ease of Installation
The Motorola Wi-Fi installation wizard configures a secure Wi-Fi connection on a user’s machine. This is something almost no other manufacturer offers because it is so hard to do on other wireless gateways. When the wizard is finished, a secure WPA encrypted wireless connection is established to the gateway. Other manufacturers normally set the default Wi-Fi connection with no security, leaving the user's machines vulnerable to hackers.

Service Assurance
Motorola enables intelligent management, auto-provisioning, and remote management features to improve accuracy, efficiency, and customer satisfaction. These management features also enable remote device administration for improved accuracy and reduced support costs. Motorola also offers centralized remote provisioning, troubleshooting, and management through the NBBS device management software platform, a scalable, carrier-grade software platform that enables cable operators to remotely access, configure, monitor, and troubleshoot the full portfolio of consumer devices, home networks, and services.

Green Platforms
Motorola believes in "going green" — we have a global commitment to sustaining the environment. Motorola has been working for years to continually improve our environmental profile. We are in step with our customers and their increasing interest in partnering with a company that will help them reduce their environmental impact, while offering compelling products that will help them grow their eco-conscious customer base.

Motorola designed its next generation SURFboard portfolio of CPE to minimize its impact on the environment. SURFboard complies with international environmental and energy efficient standards. The portfolio uses ENERGY STAR qualified power supplies and its devices and power supplies are compliant with European Code of Conduct regulations. In addition, its lead-free circuit boards are RoHS compliant. Finally, all new SURFboard CPE use environmentally friendly package designs. The CPE are available in single bulk pack boxes – eliminating the use of suspension plastic and reducing box size – thereby reducing waste and transport costs. Motorola’s packaging is 100% recyclable and is marked with standard recycling codes to make it easier for our customers to identify recycling opportunities. We are helping our customers lower their carbon footprint.
